Before It Was Too Late – A True Story of Survival, Faith and Second Chances

What if the little aches and pains you ignore today could change the rest of your life?

In Before It Was Too Late, Australian author Peter R. Mittler tells the remarkable true story of how a series of seemingly unrelated health issues led to a life-changing diagnosis. Repeated bouts of pancreatitis and persistent symptoms eventually uncovered a dangerous pancreatic condition that doctors believed had a very high chance of becoming cancerous.

The decision to undergo a total pancreatectomy saved Peter’s life, but it was only the beginning of an extraordinary journey. Within days of surgery, he suffered a major heart attack, required a pacemaker, and later underwent double bypass surgery—all during the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic. Against overwhelming odds, he survived.

More than a medical memoir, Before It Was Too Late is a story of hope, resilience, faith, and the importance of listening to your body. Peter shares the warning signs he wishes everyone knew, the difficult choices he faced, and the incredible dedication of the medical teams and family members who helped him through his darkest days.

Today, Peter lives with diabetes following the removal of his pancreas and has dedicated his life to raising awareness of pancreatic and upper gastrointestinal diseases. Through his writing, music, and public speaking, he hopes to encourage others to seek medical advice early and to advocate for their own health.

Before It Was Too Late is an inspiring reminder that early intervention can save lives and that even after unimaginable challenges, it is possible to find purpose, gratitude, and a new direction. The book offers readers not only a compelling personal story but also a message that could one day save the life of someone they love.
