This is "Topic index `C'" of my index to topics that I have posted to this

[Left (enlarge): The medieval idea of a circlet crown of thorns is exemplified by this crown of thorns bought by King Louis IX (r. 1226-70) of France from Emperor Baldwin II (1217–73) of Constantinople in 1238, and preserved from 1801 in Notre Dame Cathedral, Paris, until 2019 when it was rescued from a fire in that cathedral, it was moved to the Louvre Museum, Paris[CTW]. The circlet is made of plaited rushes[BP53, 94]. See 08Sep13 that the bloodflows on the back of the head of the man on the Shroud were halted by a circular band, so it is possible that this actually was part of Jesus' crown of thorns[Mt 27:29; Mk 15:17; Jn 19:2,5]. While it is now only a circlet of rushes, it originally had many thorns which were distributed as relics[CJ84, 34]. This photo is from a future "Crown of thorns 08Sep13"]
