The Roman soldiers broke the legs of the two robbers crucified with Jesus, to bring about their immediate deaths [Jn 19:31-32] because they then could not raise themselves up to breathe[AF82, 81; AM00, 24; SD89, 73], but when they came to Jesus they saw that he was already dead, and so they did not break His legs[Jn 19:32-33].

A champlevé enamel panel which forms part of the altar in the Klosterneuburg monastery, near Vienna, was completed no later than 1181 by Nicholas of Verdun (1130–1205)[WI08; WI10, 182]. As can be seen below, Jesus is depicted on it having been wrapped in a longer

than body length burial shroud[WI08], with His hands crossed over His loins, right over left (as appears on the Shroud-but see 18Apr24), crossing awkwardly at the wrists, exactly as they do on the Shroud[WI08; WI10, 182-183]! Yet this was at least 79 years before the earliest 1260 radiocarbon date of the Shroud[DP89, 611], and ~174 years before the Shroud first appeared in undisputed history at Lirey, France, in c. 1355[WI10, 222]!].

"... a relief portrait of Christ on a silver vase that was found at Homs [ancient Emesa] in Syria, and is now in the Louvre in Paris ... Firmly datable to the sixth century [it has] ... the distinctive likeness that today we instinctively recognize as Jesus Christ. And if we compare [this] ... front-facing likeness ... with the face as visible on the Shroud ... there is a very uncanny resemblance: the same frontality, the same long hair, long nose, beard, etc. It is as if someone has studied the Shroud's facial imprint and for public consumption has very carefully crafted an interpretative official likeness from this ... This catacomb was closed in 820 and only opened after 1852[WI98, 159; WI91, 168-169], so a 14th century forger could not have known of it. By my count this 8th century fresco[WM86, 105; SD91, 189, 191; IJ98, 153] has ten Vignon markings, the originals of which are on the Shroud: (1), (2), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9), (13), (14) and (15) (see 12Sep21). Note in particular its Vignon Marking (2): three-sided [topless] `square' between brows." [Right (Enlarge): "Descent from the Cross with the Holy Shroud," by Giovanni Battista della Rovere (1561-1627), in Galleria Sabauda, Turin. This aquatint print depicts the Descent from the Cross or Deposition of Christ, from the information on the Shroud how Jesus' body was laid on the bottom half of the Cloth and then the top half was drawn over His head and overlapped at His feet. Except that the above front and back, head to head, image on the Shroud held by angels, has the anachronistic burn marks from a fire in 1532 (see "1532"). Also Rovere wrongly depicted Jesus' right hand over His left, when on the Shroud Jesus' left hand is over his right wrist[WI98, 137]. (see Shroud Scope - the spear in the side bloodstain is in Jesus' right side[WI79, 42-44; IJ98, 2, 62; AM00, 31, 33, 101; GV01, 40, 88]). This photo is from Book, my 06Aug07" below).]

I have posted to this my The Shroud of Turin blog. See my abandoned 2015 Topic Index A-G, etc; and 2016 "The Shroud of Turin blog topics Index `A-Z'". But this time I will prepare the topics on Gmail on my phone, using the time I waste reading news articles! Again, I will start from my first post and work forward. I will post one of the 26 pages each day, including blank ones. That will give me time to catch up with my "Shroud of Turin News" which I haven't posted since the "May - July 2022" issue on 16 August 2022! Existing pages of this Topic Index will then be updated in the background. The main reason I am re-starting this topic index is that I have forgotten some of what I have posted in more than 620 posts these last nearly 17 years! This will also help me write my book in progress, "Shroud of Turin: Burial Sheet of Jesus!" (see 06Jul17, 03Jun18, 04Apr22, 13Jul22 & 8 Nov 22).
