[Right (Enlarge): Bust of Christ Pantocrator in the Catacomb of Pontianus, Rome[CPW]. This catacomb was closed in 820 and only opened after 1852[WI98, 159; WI91, 168-169], so a 14th century forger could not have known of it. By my count this 8th century fresco[WM86, 105; SD91, 189, 191; IJ98, 153] has ten Vignon markings, the originals of which are on the Shroud: (1), (2), (5), (6), (7), (8), (9), (13), (14) and (15) (see 12Sep21). Note in particular its Vignon Marking (2): three-sided [topless] `square' between brows." See 22Sep12 that the two vertical sides of this `topless square' is a flaw or change in the weave of the Shoud! See also "710". This is from "Pantocrator: Pontianus 25Jul07" below, except with a more realistic photo substituted.]
